My 5 Current Favorite Kitchens of All Time.

I genuinely can’t get enough of kitchen design. Please see my spouse for confirmation. She has often been scolded for glazing over while I gush about perfect custom cabinetry details, creative tile selections, and beautiful natural stone. As if thats less interesting than her cross fit workout.

To each their own! But since you’re here I know you at least appreciate a good kitchen design. Here are my current top 5 I continue to come back to lovingly stare at.

Quick note: All the image sources and designers websites and Instagrams are linked under each image should you want to view more of their work!

1. Mies Van Der Rohe Apartment Kitchen - Studio CAK

You might try to claim I’m biased as I consider Christopher a friend, but how can you argue with this beauty? The white vent hood, the glass backspash, AND THE VINTAGE ISLAND? I don’t think I can.

I continue to be in awe of Christopher’s ability to create such a layered, rich, life giving design in a way that subtly honors the historic Mies Van Der Rohe building designed by a man famous for a ‘less is more’ approach.

2. Susan Peterson’s Utah Home - Alice Lane Interior Design

People who know me might find this to be a surprising choice, but this kitchen truly inspired me to see opportunities for surprise and whimsey in subtle and unexpected ways. I think this was the first time I ever saw a tiled range hood and my life has been changed ever since. Fun fact, this inspired the tiled hood in our Cypress Hills project!

I’m also so genuinely obsessed with the HOT pink color pop on the interior of this rich green cabinets. Now this is not the first time I’d ever seen the concept of a surprise color on a cabinet interior, but the way it was included in this very elegant design feels unexpected in a way that has always stayed with me.

3. The Cottage Bungalow Kitchen - Shavonda Gardner

It’s hard to capture in a small selection of words the authentic perfection that is Shavonda’s remodeled cottage bungalow kitchen. I can only assume you, like I, can feel the love and thoughtfulness she put into every single minute detail of this space that will be home to their family. I highly recommend heading over to her instagram highlights and hear about it in her own words.

I don’t know if I could choose my favorite part, but twist my arm and maybe I can choose three. 1. The overall color scheme, especially the cabinetry color. Burgundy and its cousins/sisters are my favorite color family and the yellow of the custom wall paper is *chefs kiss. 2. The floor tile. The color. The texture. The pattern. The warmth. Just throw some cold water on me. 3. Last, but not least. The dining table in lieu of an island or other storage piece. I don’t know why people don’t love this move more. It feels so warm and inviting. The perfect cherry on top of the proverbial cake.

4. DeVOL Paul’s Fishermans Cottage & Helen’s Victorian Villa

Look. This is my space and If I want to go for a two in one, what about it?

First off, the fisherman’s cottage. The random detail that lives in my mind rent free? The height of the island pendant. We’re so used to hanging light fixtures above eye level and enviably end up looking at a light bulb when we’re in the space. Ick. But these glazed ceramic shades keep the warm glow angled at the countertop and out of your eyes and give you this beautiful crackled finish to lovely glance as as you mysteriously peek at your loved one across the counter. THE AMBIANCE. Honorable mentions: mustard cabinets. range in the old fireplace. 3 different countertop materials. excessive candlelight.

Helen’s personal kitchen simultaneously stresses me out and makes me question everything I think about kitchen design. At first glance some will feel the collectedness of it, while others will see a lack of efficiency. But when you watch Helen & Paul share their lifestyle and spend time in the space on their show For the Love of Kitchens on Magnolia Network it becomes so clear that this design honors her and her lifestyle in such an authentic way that anything else would have just felt, wrong.

5. Capitol Hill Carriage House
- Heidi Caillier

This kitchen made me believe classic design again. The monochromatic color of the cabinets, paneled appliances, walls, and french door paired with the layers of vintage feel lighting and art makes this tiny kitchen feel more like a cozy library to me than the highly functional kitchen it is. For real though I get an overwhelming desire to downsize every time I come back to this kitchen. Everything Heidi touches turns to gold (you best believe that Fox Hill Bathroom will be making an upcoming appearance soon) and is in my humble opinion the queen of old meets new world design.
